HUEBER delivers new main drive to the Rohrwerk Maxhütte in Bavaria

In less than 11 months the Kirner special gearbox manufacturer HUEBER Getriebebau GmbH developed and supplied a circa 50 tons heavy SRW gearbox to the Bavarian Rohrwerk Maxhütte at Sulzbach-Rosenberg.

The Rohrwerk Maxhütte produces seamless steel pipes in different types and steel qualities. Over 100.000 tons of steel pipes are leaving the Rohrwerk Maxhütte annually - high-quality end-products from the hot-manufacturing respectively cold-manufacturing of pipes, particularly high-alloyed boiler tubes and antifriction bearing pipes.

Five drives are providing exactly defined progressive ratios at 30 output shafts, which are necessary, in order to produce from a 130mm pipe with 14 meters by hot-manufacturing a 21mm pipe with circa 95 meters in about 15 seconds for example.
Because of the increased speed, the Rohrwerk Maxhütte provides now over 60 new dimensions with improved quality to the market, which lowers the cost structure and secures therefore the jobs.

For this not completely uncritical order, some HUEBER Getriebebau GmbH employees really exceeded themselves and guaranteed by strong and extremely personal efforts the technical success as well as meeting the deadlines. Also the concentrated efforts of some key suppliers promoted this reference project.
The backfitting date was fixed to Dec. 12th, 2007. This deadline had to be met under all circumstances. A constant status alignment of all over 200 gear parts was just as indispensable as team discussions over assembly sequences including the necessary devices.

This 8 meters long special gearbox was one of the critical components of the 12.5 million euro modernization project in terms of scheduling and engineering.
So the Rohrwerk Maxhütte was quite surprised that HUEBER - as one of the few - delivered the gearbox some days before the deadline. Furthermore the gearbox exceeded all expectations in terms of extremely low oscillation values in the operating attitude.
